OVERVIEW: 

The Planning and Managing the Maintenance Shutdown course will define the purpose of and types of shutdowns and will introduce SAMI’s ten step shutdown management process detailing the planning and scheduling tools and techniques necessary for an effective shutdown. Course participants will learn about all aspects of shutdown planning including shutdown scope development (including the collection of shutdown scope information and the compilation, review and approval of the master shutdown work list), shutdown roles and responsibilities, limits of authority and decision responsibility, shutdown budget development, planning process milestones, and the planning timeline for projects requiring long lead time, materials or services. The course will also highlight the factors effecting shutdown duration in addition to some specific shutdown and post shutdown management techniques.

The Planning and Managing the Maintenance Shutdown course will: 

  • Demonstrate the importance of a well planned and executed shutdown in maximizing operational effectiveness
  • Present the principles and processes required to make it happen
  • Introduce a ten step shutdown management process, for organizing, planning, scheduling, and executing effective maintenance shutdowns
